Tickets are now on sale for our 3rd Annual Fashion Show!  It's scheduled for June 9th from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at the Grand Ely Lodge. This year's donations from the show will benefit the Ely Girl Scouts, Cops and Kids and the Whiteside Park Playground Project.  To quote The Ely Timberjay issued on May 12, 2012:  "This fun and entertaining fashion happening features 25 local models ranging in age from one-year-old to 70.  Along with viewing stylish clothing, show-goers receive fashion tips."  (If you didn't see our article - grab a Timberjay!)

And this year we have a special request for those of you planning on attending:  Wear something you've purchased from Secret Sisters!  You'll get to enter your name in for a special drawing!

Tickets are available at Secret Sisters Boutique, at the Grand Ely Lodge, from local Girl Scouts and at the door!  Get them early before they're all gone!  We also have tickets available for a quilt drawing - the quilt is hanging at the store and it is AMAZING!  Made by our ever-talented Autumn Cole!

Happy Summer Ladies!

Summer is once again here and not only is it swimsuit season (Eeeek!) but it's also wedding season! From fun dresses for attendees to beautiful mother-of-the-bride/groom dresses - once again - you'll find we have it all!  We really liked some of the wedding fashion tips in the latest People Stylewatch! The expert says: "It's better to be overdressed than underdressed for a special occasion like a wedding. A LBD (little black dress) with a bold cuff or fabulous earrings is usually a safe bet. You can always take off an item of jewelry to make your look more casual." - Mindy Weiss, celeb wedding planner.

And...Did You Know...? The white wedding dress became iconic in 1840 after Queen Victoria wore one to marry Prince Albert. Nowadays, according to etiquette expert Anna Post, you can wear white as a guest too. Just make sure your dress doesn't look bridal, then add colorful shoes, a shawl or jewelry!

Other Summer Finds...

OK, let me just say it now...Corset style crop tops are only for the size 2-6, teen to 20 something woman. (And I don't fit into either category!)  They are oh so 80's and oh so shape limiting! Let me hear a Hurray for the soft flowing overtop! That's much more like it! Something that EVERY shape can wear...just remember: if you wear something oversized on the top you should wear a tighter bottom like leggings or a pencil skirt. A more fitted top is something you can wear with wider leg pants. Works for almost every shape!

COLOR, COLOR, COLOR!!!

This summers fashions have brought out the most wonderful colors! (Yes, I'm the woman who LOVES the paint chips at the hardware store!)  Don't be afraid to pull out all the bright colors in your closet... wear hot pink with orange, green with blue...you  name it!  Whether you color block it or add flowers - play up your colorful personality! Take a look at some of our wonderful new clothing and accessories just in!

What's new in shoes?

Boat shoes are back! From Sperry to cute little sequined Dexters your options are endless...naturals to color to printed...Wahooo! The nautical theme is back not only in clothing now but also in shoes! Pull out your striped tops and flat front sailor shorts, grab your boat shoes and hit the streets not just the lake! Fun and comfort - our feet will thank us! Of course fabulous sandals and ballerina flats are always in style!

Plus-size Style

Plus-size style has finally come to the front of society's fashion pages! It's about time! People Stylewatch's Ashley Falcon is quoted as saying: "Bigger women sometimes avoid shorts, but there's no reason to! The trick is to go for modern cuts: No elastic waists, please! The fabric is important too. Unless we're talking about a trend like lace, it has to be sturdy. Length is individual, though. A little above the knee works on most people, but really it's a about your comfort level!" Thank you Ashley! Too many times we've seen plus size women stay away from shorts. There are some great styles out now for all sizes!  Here's a few of our new tops in just for you...

The Long and Short of Shorts

Which shorts length is right for you? More tips from People Stylewatch...Short shorts are good if you have short legs or a boyish shape - they're great for making legs appear longer! Mid-length shorts are good for anyone! Long or short legs, and any body type! Look for pairs with a 5 to 7 inch inseam or use this trick to find your best length...stand with your arms straight down by your sides. The hem should be within an inch or two of where your fingertips hit! Bermuda shorts are perfect for those of you with long legs, are curvy or have a pear shape! The knee-length style offers more coverage and flatters a tall figure!
